10 Bus Contingency Analysis in Power world


Step 1. Design a total of 16 scenarios by setting up n-1 contingency analysis.


Step 2. Via these scenarios, find the most problematic transmission line and strength the transmission network by adding line, conducting load curtailment, ramping up/down generator. (One new line added)


Step 3. After Step 2, Design a total of 17 scenarios by setting up another n-1 contingency analysis for new systems.


Step 4. Same as Step 2, strength system reliability through line network reinforcement for problematic scenarios.


Step 5. After Step 4, Design a total of 18 scenarios by setting up n-1 contingency analysis for newly strengthened system. In this case, there is no more line founded which has any issue.

 

Below scenarios show which violation it has, what action to improve system reliability has been done and what occurred after action had been taken.


In the end, the system can be operated stably by adding two new additional transmission lines and increasing the load limit of one line.

 

 

Scenario 1. Open Line One 138.0 (1) to Two 138.0 (2)

Violation : transmission lines overloaded : one to three(149.91%), seven to five (100.87%).

Action to improve system reliability : Adjusted MW of Gen 1 to 80MW.

What happend? Transmission lines which were overloaded being back to normal one to three (97.7%), seven to five (69.5%).

 

Scenario 2. Open Line One 138.0 (1) to Three 138.0 (3)

Violation : transmission lines overloaded : one to two (111.49%), two to five (110.41%).

Action to improve system reliability : Added new transmission line between Bus 1 to bus Two and curtailed load at bus five from 150 MW to 100 MW.

What happend? Overloaded transmission lines got back to normal one to two (61.2%), two to five (95.6%).

 

Scenario 3. Open Line Eight 138.0 (8) to One 138.0 (1)

Violation : None.

Action to improve system reliability : No action needed.

Scenario 4. Open Line Two 138.0 (2) to Three 138.0 (3)

Violation : Overloaded transmission line between two to five (106.76%).

Action to improve system reliability : Load curtailment at the bus five from 150 MW to 130 MW.

What happend? Overloaded transmission line got to be under 100% (98.1%).

 

Scenario 5. Open Line Two 138.0 (2) to four 138.0 (4)

Violation : Overloaded transmission line between two to five (106.76%).

Action to improve system reliability : Load curtailment at the bus five from 150 MW to 120 MW.

What happend? Overloaded transmission line got to be under 100% (95.5%).

 

Scenario 6. Open Line Two 138.0 (2) to five 138.0 (5)

Violation : Overloaded transmission line between two to five (106.76%).

Action to improve system reliability : Transmission line newly added between bus five to seven.

What happend? Overloaded transmission line got back to normal (79.5%).

 

Scenario 7. Open Line Two 138.0 (2) to six 138.0 (6)

Violation : Overloaded transmission line between two to five (105.2%).

Action to improve system reliability : Generator 1 drop down to 150MW and Load curtailment at bus five from 150MW to 130MW.

What happend? Overloaded transmission line got back to normal (85.7%).
